The French city of Lille is the headquarters of the new European Customs Authority

BRUSSELS, March 25 / WAM / The European Council and the European Parliament chose the French city of Lille as the headquarters of the future European Union Customs Authority (EUCA).

The authority will be tasked with coordinating and continuously supporting the activities of national customs authorities throughout the Union, and is expected to include approximately 250 employees.

The establishment of the new authority forms part of the work to reform the EU’s overall customs framework, so that it can deal with the significant pressure resulting from increasing trade flows, fragmented national systems, the rapid rise of e-commerce, and changing geopolitical realities.

European legislators agreed to determine the location of the headquarters in an informal meeting between institutions at the political level.
