From competition to friendship at the Chanel event

During the Academy Women’s Luncheon on December 10, which was presented by Chanel, the two stars sat next to each other and shined in wonderful looks created by the house, and they were keen to take pictures together. They also exchanged loving comments on social media. Gomez posted a photo of herself with Grande on Instagram and commented: “An angel on earth.” Grande reposted the story, adding: “This is you, Selena.”
And it looks like Grande and Gomez may be competing throughout awards season in the Best Supporting Actress category. At the Golden Globe Awards, Grande received a nomination for her role as Glenda in Wicked, while Gomez was honored for her role as Jessi Del Monte in Emilia Pérez.
Grande spoke to Variety about the nomination, which marks her first ever honor at the Golden Globe Awards. She said: “I’m really an emotional mess. I’m so grateful. I was crying all the time during video calls with my mother. It’s hard to put my feelings into words. I’m incredibly grateful! I have tissues in my hand now because I’m crying intermittently without stopping.”
She added about her feeling after this appreciation for her role as “Glinda”, a role that she had always dreamed of: “It is such an incredible feeling that I cannot describe it. I am very touched and grateful. I have always respected this role and knew exactly what it required to play it. For this reason, I have always I adore and respect the amazing women who have played this role. All I wanted was to do the job right from my first audition until the last day of filming. I was grateful for this opportunity to see this kind of appreciation after all the effort Extraordinary. I’m so grateful, and I can’t wait to call my acting coach, Nancy Banks, and wake her up wherever she is in the world. I think she’s somewhere far away, but it doesn’t matter, I’ll wake her up!”
As for Gomez, she spoke to ELLE magazine in the December 2024/January 2025 issue about the extent to which the movie Emilia Pérez influenced her life, and how much she enjoyed working alongside Carla Sofia Gascón and Zoe Saldana. She said: “To be in this moment with these women talking about an important, poignant, beautiful film, it is an amazing feeling for me. I was not expecting everything that is happening. I feel really grateful for this stage of my life. Every day I wake up and think, How did I get this opportunity? “
On December 9, Gomez also shared a video on her Instagram Story showing her direct reaction upon learning of the news of her nomination for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. The star was so moved that she buried her face in her hands. “I don’t even know what to write. I’m so proud of Zoe Saldana, my co-star in Emilia Pérez and another nominee for the same award. I’m so grateful and honored,” she wrote on the video. (ET in Arabic)
