Dubai Industrial City promotes sustainability initiatives

Dubai, December 12 / WAM / The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment affirmed its commitment to promoting sustainability initiatives and applying modern agricultural practices, and the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to enhance sustainability.

Her Excellency Engineer Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, said during her participation in Dubai Industrial City in the activities of the Country’s Planting Week, in the initiative to plant trees within the area designated for workers’ housing in the city.

She added that this initiative, which is in line with the national program “Plant the Emirates,” the “Our Emirate is Green” initiative, and “Afforestation Week,” aims to promote the planting of local trees and disseminate best practices to achieve the vision of our wise leadership in building sustainable communities, calling on the concerned parties, whether from the private or public sector. , to continue adopting such initiatives that contribute to supporting sustainable development and connecting future generations with nature.

She pointed out that Dubai Industrial City represents a role model in adopting innovation and technology to achieve food security and environmental sustainability, as advanced facilities, such as the “Sokovo” vertical farm, embody the vital role that cooperation between the two sectors plays in building a sustainable and resilient economy. She said, “We seek through this Initiatives to expand the scope of modern agricultural practices that enhance local production and reduce environmental impact.”
Her Excellency toured the “Sokovo Nature Farms” vertical farm, which is considered one of the most prominent modern agricultural facilities in the region. The farm extends over an area of ​​100,000 square feet and is characterized by hydroponic farming systems that reduce water consumption, double the production of leafy vegetables, and produce large quantities of agricultural products to meet the needs of the market. Local, including major stores, restaurants and hotels.

For his part, Saud Abu Al-Shawareb, Executive Vice President of TECOM Group – Industrial Sector, stressed that the cooperation between the Ministry and Dubai Industrial City reflects the joint commitment to achieving the UAE’s vision of building a sustainable future.

It is noteworthy that Dubai Industrial City includes more than 1,100 customers and 350 factories, and it contributes effectively to the production of clean energy, which highlights its pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability.
