"Abu Dhabi Development" It finances 33 projects in Bahrain worth 23 billion dirhams

ABU DHABI, 15 December / WAM / Cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain constitutes a pioneering model of joint work aimed at achieving sustainable development, which reflects the depth of the historical fraternal relations between the two sides, as the Fund is linked with the Kingdom of Bahrain through an established strategic partnership since 1974, which has contributed to Supporting promising economic visions to achieve comprehensive development.

The Fund contributed significantly to the development of infrastructure and sustainable development projects in Bahrain, by financing 33 development projects worth up to 23 billion dirhams, which included major sectors such as housing, energy, transportation, and health, and contributed to meeting financing needs and supporting the financial balance program for the years 2023 and 2024. Which boosted economic growth in the country.

Over five decades of fruitful partnership, the Fund continues to support development initiatives consistent with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, committed to strengthening the solid relations between the two countries and advancing progress and prosperity in the Kingdom.

The projects funded by the Fund constitute a milestone in the process of Emirati-Bahraini cooperation, as they contributed to improving the quality of life, supporting sustainable development goals, and enhancing the government’s ability to meet the needs of its citizens in various sectors.

On the occasion of the National Day of the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain, which falls on December 16 of each year, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, expressed his congratulations to the Bahraini government, its leadership and its people, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain continued security, progress and prosperity.

He said that the strategic relationship with the Government of Bahrain is a unique model of development cooperation that has lasted for more than 50 years, and this partnership has resulted in great achievements in many economic sectors, which contributes to achieving comprehensive development that benefits Bahraini society.

He stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Gulf Cooperation Council Development Programme, which was approved in 2013, represents one of the most prominent aspects of this fruitful cooperation, pointing out that the program is a living example of the sustainable development support provided by the United Arab Emirates through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, as it aims to Supporting infrastructure and strengthening vital sectors in line with the Kingdom’s development aspirations.

He pointed out that the partnership between the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Bahraini government demonstrates the strength of Gulf cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals. The financial and technical support provided by the Fund enhances the Kingdom’s ability to implement its major national projects, which contributes to creating new job opportunities and improving the level of services provided to citizens in Bahrain. This cooperation reflects the shared vision between the two sides to achieve comprehensive development within the framework of the fraternal relations that bind the peoples of the two countries.

The housing units project in Salman City, costing 1.9 billion dirhams, represents a direct response to citizens’ needs to obtain modern housing through the construction of 2,400 housing units with infrastructure works, enhances community stability and contributes to reducing the gap in demand for housing.

In December 2024, the first phase of the housing units project was opened, which includes 1,382 housing units. It was designed according to the model developed for the new generation of housing projects to meet modern requirements. The implementation of the second phase of the project is scheduled to be completed according to the plan agreed upon between the two sides.

The Diffan East Sitra project, which costs 914 million dirhams, reflects an integrated vision to increase the residential area through land reclamation, as the project aims to create 4,500 housing units, which will provide new options for residents, and the completion of the project is a positive indicator of achieving development goals.

The Mohammed bin Khalifa Specialized Heart Center project, which costs 937 million dirhams, is a qualitative leap in health services, as it provides specialized care for heart diseases, which reduces the need to travel to receive treatment abroad, as the project supports the health sector in the country by providing advanced services that meet the needs of society.

The Bahrain International Airport development project, at a cost of 3.7 billion dirhams, contributes to consolidating Bahrain’s position as a regional air transport hub, as it has raised the capacity to 14 million passengers annually, which reflects the Kingdom’s keenness to keep pace with the increasing growth in travel and tourism, and to support the national economy in a sustainable manner.

The Sheikh Zayed Road Expansion Project, at a cost of 337 million dirhams, addresses the challenges of traffic congestion and provides solutions to improve transportation infrastructure. The project contributed to raising the road’s capacity to 50,000 vehicles per day, as it demonstrates a commitment to developing an integrated road network that facilitates public transportation.

The water transmission network development project, at a cost of 187 million dirhams, also focuses on improving the water infrastructure by establishing two storage and pumping stations in vital areas. The project aims to ensure the sustainability of water resources and meet the increasing demand for water in residential and industrial areas.

The Northern City Wastewater Treatment Project, which costs 415 million dirhams, highlights the importance of sustainable environmental management by treating wastewater for use in irrigating agricultural areas. The project achieves a balance between urban development and the protection of natural resources.
