Causes fear and confusion. An American senator demands that anonymous marches be tracked
This came after weeks of fear and confusion about drones flying over parts of New York and New Jersey.
According to statements issued by his office, Schumer, a Democratic senator from New York, called on the Department of Homeland Security to immediately use special technology to identify and track these marches to their landing points.
Public anxiety increased
Schumer’s calls come amid growing public concern that the federal government has not provided clear explanations about who operates the rallies, nor has it stopped them.
National security officials said these marches did not appear to be a sign of foreign interference.
“Could this really happen without our government knowing? I don’t think so,” President-elect Donald Trump said in a social media post last week. “Let the public know, let the public know now or shoot it down.”
Criminal or foreign activity
Unidentified drones continued to appear in the skies over the northeastern United States this weekend, prompting federal authorities to reiterate the absence of any criminal or foreign activity in this regard, while President-elect Donald Trump suggested shooting them down.
Kathy Hockel, the Democratic Governor of New York State, the fourth largest US state in terms of population (20 million people), said in a statement on Saturday that the runways of a small airport in the area were closed for an hour the previous evening due to the appearance of “new drones.”
In contact with Agence France-Presse, the shipping authorities in New York confirmed this short closure, which had no effect on flights.
Reports of unidentified flights
For several weeks, residents in the New York and New Jersey area have been reporting drones flying in the sky, a phenomenon that has raised concern, especially since local and national authorities have not provided any answers regarding its source.
Video clips of luminous devices flying in the sky have spread on social media, while local elected officials criticize President Joe Biden’s administration for what they consider to be inaction on its part.
