For the lack of financing, the World Food Program intends to give up a quarter of its employees
The World Food Program intends to reduce the number of its employees by between 25 and 30% worldwide, due to the decline in funding for the international organization.
The program said: “We concluded that the World Food Program must reduce its global working strength by between 25 and 30%, which may affect up to 6000 jobs with the ongoing preparations for the year 2026.”
There are no signs of improvement
The World Food Program added: “Our current expectations for donor financing for 2025 are 6.4 billion US dollars, which represents a decrease of 40% compared to last year, and we are still concerned about the absence of any signs of improvement in the situation.”
She pointed out that “this structural transformation – necessary to maintain resources to support vital processes – will affect all geographical areas, departments and levels of the organization.”
Before the discounts, the World Food Program, which was established in 1961, had 23,000 employees in 120 countries, according to its website.
Required workforce discounts
The program added that “the size of the required workforce discounts is a news that is difficult to say and is difficult to hear, however, it is the necessary and responsible decision in view of our fragile financing expectations.”
The administration of US President Donald Trump canceled 83% of the budget allocated to the USAID programs (USAID).
This agency alone was allocated an annual budget of $ 42.8 billion, or 42% of the global humanitarian aid.
