20 theatrical performances and 12 days of events at the Riyadh Theater Festival

The Conference Center at Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh will host the activities of the second session of the Riyadh Theater Festival, which was launched with the participation of 20 theatrical productions over the course of 12 days until December 26.
The activities include 3 dialogue seminars, 3 workshops, and 20 critical readings, in a rich and distinctive theatrical experience.

In its current edition, the festival honors the pioneer of Saudi theater, Mr. Ahmed Al-Sibai, in appreciation of his great contributions to introducing theater to the Kingdom and developing the performing arts. This edition also comes as a continuation of the success achieved by the first edition, with aspirations to achieve more excellence and creativity.

New achievement

The CEO of the Theater and Performing Arts Authority, Mr. Sultan Al-Bazai, confirmed that the festival represents a new achievement in the journey of Saudi theatre, saying: “The festival embodies our extended cultural identity and our creative diversity, with the support of the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them.”
He praised the participation of various theatrical works, which represent a creative wealth that enhances the position of Saudi theater in the cultural scene.

Content development

While the festival director, Dr. Rashid Al-Shamrani, explained that the festival aims to discover theatrical talent, develop content, and expand the theatrical audience base, pointing out its role in promoting cultural dialogue and human communication, which contributes to building a society aware of the performing arts.
The festival’s activities include daily performances by theater groups from 8 Saudi cities, in addition to workshops and critical sessions aimed at developing theatrical practices. The festival also witnessed the honoring of the screening and viewing committee composed of an elite group of theatrical experts who contributed to raising the quality of the performances presented.

The Riyadh Theater Festival comes as an affirmation of the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the arts as a fundamental axis in cultural development, in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which provides the public with a unique cultural and creative experience.
