Bodour Al Qasimi witnesses the signing of a cooperation agreement between… "Emirates Copyright" And organized "KOPIPOL"


Warsaw, June 1, 2017 – Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and Honorary President of the Emirates Copyright Management Association, witnessed the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Polish organization KOPIPOL, which specializes in managing copyrights for scientific and technical works, on the sidelines of the association’s participation in the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, as part of the exhibition’s “Sharjah Guest of Honor Programme.” This comes in support of the efforts aimed at strengthening the system of intellectual property rights protection and developing the publishing and creative industries sector, and in light of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi’s interest in supporting cultural and knowledge initiatives that contribute to the development of the publishing industry and enhancing international cooperation in the areas of copyright protection and collective management of copyrights, in a way that consolidates the position of the United Arab Emirates as a pioneering model in protecting intellectual property rights at the regional and global levels. It also falls within the framework of the association’s keenness to expand the horizons of its partnerships with active organizations in this field and its tireless endeavor to support the sustainability of cultural and creative industries locally and globally, and to play an active role in shaping the future of the sector.
The cooperation agreement aims to enhance the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and develop joint work mechanisms in the areas of copyright protection and collective rights management, which contributes to establishing a more sustainable and open creative environment that supports creators and protects their rights.
Within the framework of the integrated Emirati cultural program witnessed at the exhibition, the association reviewed the UAE’s experience in the field of copyright management, its efforts to protect intellectual and creative works, and to enhance awareness of the importance of respecting copyright in light of the rapid transformations witnessed by the publishing sector and creative industries internationally.
The association also organized a specialized dialogue session entitled “Collective Management Organizations and their Role in Protecting Creativity – Between the UAE and Poland,” in cooperation with the KOPIPOL organization, and with the participation of an elite group of experts and specialists in the field of copyright and collective rights management.
The session discussed the pivotal role of collective management organizations in regulating the use of creative works within educational and cultural institutions, licensing mechanisms that ensure the protection of the literary and material rights of authors and creators, reviewing the most prominent challenges imposed by the digital age on the copyright system, and the importance of international cooperation in developing systems for protecting intellectual rights, highlighting the Emirati-Polish model in this context.
Mohammed bin Dukhain Al Matroushi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Copyright Management Association, said: Our participation in the exhibition represents an important strategic milestone. To enhance international dialogue on the future of copyright and collective rights management, especially in light of the rapid changes witnessed by the cultural and creative industries sector worldwide.
He added: We are working in the association to establish a culture of respect for copyright, and to build an integrated system that supports the protection of creative works and the preservation of the moral and material rights of creators, in addition to enhancing cooperation with international institutions and organizations to exchange experiences and develop innovative work mechanisms in this field, which contributes to establishing a more just and sustainable creative environment, and ensures strengthening the sector’s readiness for the future.
