America, South Korea and Japan are looking to combat North Korea’s maritime activities

The United States of America, South Korea and Japan discussed in a joint symposium on (the maritime industry), combating North Korea’s illegal maritime activities.
The US State Department said – in a statement today, Tuesday – The symposium, which took place in Singapore, comes as part of ongoing efforts to curb Pyongyang’s attempts to evade sanctions and gain revenue for its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs, in violation of several resolutions from The United Nations Security Council.
The statement stated that Pyongyang continues to import refined oil in excess of the limit permitted by the United Nations to generate revenues to support its weapons and ballistic missile programs. And through the illegal export of coal and iron ore and through the smuggling of prohibited goods through illegal practices to evade maritime sanctions.
The United States met And South Korea and Japan to organize this event to strengthen the capabilities of the global maritime industry and government partners to disrupt North Korea’s exploitation of the global maritime services sector.
Representatives from 24 countries participated in the symposium. , including shipowners, brokers, insurance companies, and commodity traders, as well as government officials representing maritime oversight agencies, law enforcement, maritime records management, and authorities.
During the event, global industry leaders, experts, and government officials addressed the latest trends in North Korea’s maritime sanctions evasion practices and potential solutions to the challenges the shipping industry faces in sanctions compliance.
Discussions focused on opportunities to enhance cooperation between industry and governments to prevent, detect and disrupt North Korea’s maritime activities in evading Penalties.
