"Emirati Orchestra"…a qualitative addition to the cultural scene in the country

Abu Dhabi, December 19 / WAM / The announcement of the establishment of the “National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates” represented a qualitative addition to the diversity and richness of the cultural and artistic scene in the country, and a realistic embodiment of its care for its musical heritage, and openness to various contemporary musical styles from all over the world.
The move consolidates the UAE’s leading position in the cultural sector in the region, as it annually hosts a diverse calendar of cultural and artistic events, and is considered a center for many media and artistic institutions and one of the most prominent destinations visited by major artists and musicians from countries around the world.
The orchestra joins a list of artistic and cultural edifices and destinations in the Emirates, as the step culminates efforts to advance cultural and artistic diversity and contributes to strengthening the country’s position on the map of the most prominent artistic and cultural destinations in the region.
The orchestra embodies the characteristic of intellectual and cultural openness that prevails in Emirati society, and its desire to exchange knowledge and artistic experiences with others, in parallel with its interest in strengthening its local cultural identity and preserving its popular heritage in its various forms.
On December 13, the UAE announced the establishment of the “National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates,” under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Her Excellency Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates, considered that the establishment of the orchestra will contribute to promoting and introducing local culture and arts, and to building bridges of communication with other cultures of the world, especially since the orchestra will be a source of inspiration and an effective and influential driver. In local and global communities.
The orchestra is considered one of the most important arts that penetrates the cultural heritage of peoples to express their heritage, issues, and refined human feelings.
The term “orchestra” came from the Greek word “orchestika” or “orchestae” at that time, meaning the distance between the audience and the members of the choir in public musical theatres, where the players were stationed in front of the theatrical scene. Since the early seventeenth century, the multi-member group acquired the term “orchestra”.
An orchestra is defined as a group of musicians playing musical instruments together, and it has two main classifications according to size: the “symphony orchestra,” which may have up to 100 players, and the “chamber orchestra,” which usually includes 30 to 40 players.
Many orchestras have gained international fame, most notably the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
