Harvest 2024… an Emirati commitment to strengthening international solidarity and humanitarian action

Abu Dhabi, December 20 / WAM / The UAE has translated its commitment to strengthening international solidarity and solidarity, in its various forms and manifestations, through support programs and humanitarian initiatives around the world.
The UAE played a pioneering role, registering a significant presence in humanitarian work arenas around the world during the year 2024, which witnessed an abundant harvest of humanitarian initiatives launched by the state, as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” ordered the launch of an “initiative “Zayed’s Humanitarian Legacy” worth 20 billion dirhams is allocated for humanitarian work in the most needy communities around the world.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” launched the “Mother’s Endowment” campaign with the aim of honoring mothers in the UAE by establishing an endowment fund worth one billion dirhams to support the education of millions of individuals around the world in a sustainable manner.
In light of the strategic partnership between the UAE and the G20, His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, announced that the UAE has allocated $100 million to the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty, through the Emirates International Aid Agency.
The UAE announced the formation of the “International Humanitarian Affairs Council,” which is responsible for supervising all issues and matters related to international humanitarian affairs, while the “Emirates International Aid Agency,” whose formation was announced by a federal decree, will implement the country’s foreign aid programs.
The Last Mile Initiative, the global health initiative supported by President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may God protect him, provided 55 million dirhams to the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases (Glide).
The UAE has proven its pivotal role in strengthening the international response to the crises, conflicts and disasters the world is witnessing.
Operation Gallant Knight 3, which was launched by the UAE in response to the crisis in Gaza, continued its relief and humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip.
In this context, the UAE launched the prosthetic limbs initiative to help those infected, and a polio vaccination campaign was launched for more than 640,000 children in Gaza under the age of 10, while it continued to send humanitarian and medical aid by air, land and sea to the Strip.
The UAE launched six water desalination plants in the Egyptian city of Al-Arish, benefiting more than a million people inside the Strip. It also implemented projects to repair water lines, damaged wells, and destroyed networks in the governorates of Khan Yunis and northern Gaza, as well as campaigns to distribute humanitarian aid to families in the various governorates and shelter centers. .
The Joint Operations Command launched Operation “Birds of Goodness” to drop humanitarian aid to isolated areas in the Gaza Strip that cannot be reached by aid.
In response to the difficult circumstances that Lebanon is going through, President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, “may God protect him,” ordered the provision of an urgent relief aid package worth $100 million to the brotherly Lebanese people, and in implementation of His Highness’s directives, the UAE launched a national relief campaign to support Lebanon. And his people, in the name of “The UAE is with you, Lebanon.” His Highness also directed the provision of an urgent relief aid package worth $30 million to the displaced Lebanese people to Syria.
The UAE sent about 21 planes to support the Lebanese brothers in light of the critical circumstances they are going through (3 of them to Syria), in addition to a ship that carried 2,000 tons of various relief aid.
The UAE supported all efforts aimed at advancing peace initiatives for Sudan, and pledged last April 17 to provide 100 million US dollars in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan and neighboring countries.
Last September, it announced the launch of new humanitarian initiatives in Chad, and a contribution of $10.25 million to the United Nations to support Sudanese refugee women affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The UAE has intensified its efforts to provide relief and assistance to those affected by natural disasters around the world, and the UAE has extended a helping hand to many countries such as Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mauritania, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.
The UAE provided $50 million to finance the second phase of the Livelihood and Livelihood Fund to contribute to advancing sustainable development in the member states of the Islamic Development Bank, while it signed an agreement with the World Health Organization to establish a global center for emergency logistics services.
It is worth noting that the UAE’s foreign aid since the establishment of the state’s union in 1971, until mid-2024, amounted to about 360 billion dirhams (98 billion US dollars).
