"Sharjah Heritage" Known as the scientific aspects of the electronic portal for"Thesaurus of intangible cultural heritage"

Sharjah, December 20 / WAM / The Sharjah Institute for Heritage organized the first workshop on the electronic portal for the Thesaurus of Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, in cooperation with the Library of Alexandria, at the headquarters of the Institute’s Arab Heritage Center.

The workshop, which was attended by a number of academic researchers and specialists, addressed the scientific and cognitive aspects related to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Thesaurus, and focused on the digital templates used in developing the electronic version of the thesaurus, and the implementation mechanisms that ensure access to accurate and organized content, and reviewed how to browse the electronic portal smoothly and easily. To present the general design of the portal and its technical components to ensure the provision of an advanced reference tool that contributes to the preservation and dissemination of intangible cultural heritage.

The project aims to create a comprehensive digital platform concerned with documenting intangible cultural heritage in the Arab world by providing accurate data and classifications that are compatible with international standards. The portal seeks to enhance academic research and provide an integrated database that contributes to preserving cultural heritage and linking it to various cultural entities and institutions.

The Institute is working to complete the development of the electronic portal in cooperation with cultural institutions and experts to ensure its readiness as soon as possible, as new phases of the project will be announced soon, including additional workshops and operational tests of the portal.

This achievement reflects the commitment of the Sharjah Heritage Institute to its pioneering role in preserving and renewing Arab cultural heritage in line with developments in the digital age to enhance Sharjah’s position as a global center for heritage and culture.

The participants praised the efforts made by the Sharjah Heritage Institute in developing this pioneering project, stressing the importance of such initiatives in preserving and enhancing cultural heritage.
