The Emir of Kuwait opens the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship

KUWAIT, 21st December, 2017 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, today inaugurated the 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship, “Gulf Zain 26”, which is hosted by the State of Kuwait during the period from 21 December to 3 January. Next, with the participation of 8 teams: the Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, and Yemen.
His Highness Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said, in his speech at the opening ceremony: “We welcome all of you to this sports forum that brings us together in the State of Kuwait, the land of love and peace, and reflects the fraternal sporting spirit among our Gulf peoples.”
The opening ceremony took place at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in the capital, Kuwait, in the presence of Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, and several heads of Gulf football federations, amid a large crowd.
The ceremony included various artistic performances for 20 minutes, using the latest sound and light technologies, in addition to performances from Kuwaiti and Gulf heritage and a singing operetta, in addition to a display of the flags of the eight countries participating in the current edition of the tournament, and some historical footage of past editions of the Arabian Gulf Football Cup, with… Displaying the new tournament cup, and shots of young players passing the ball around, recalling many of the old stars of the Gulf national teams in past tournaments.
