المملكة: In record time…a catheter saves an infant from pulmonary valve stenosis in Al-Qassim

The Prince Sultan Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery in Qassim, one of the components of the Qassim Health Cluster, received a 20-day-old infant, transferred from King Saud Hospital in Unayzah, suffering from severe pulmonary valve stenosis.

The Qassim Health Council explained that after conducting the necessary medical examinations, which included clinical examination, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram, and laboratory and coronary analyses, the results showed the presence of severe narrowing of the pulmonary valve and a severe reduction in blood flow.

Stabilize the child’s health condition

The group indicated that the case was presented to a team specialized in pediatric heart catheterization in cooperation with anesthesiologists, and the team decided to perform a cardiac catheterization to expand the pulmonary valve.

The operation was a complete success, and was conducted within a record time of no more than 30 minutes, which contributed to the stability of the child’s health condition, who left the center with his family within only 12 hours of his entry.
