Beyon renews its partnership with Ericsson to promote sustainability and circular economy practices

Beyon has announced the renewal of its sustainability memorandum of understanding with Ericsson, Inc. (ticker: ERIC), to expand joint sustainability initiatives and promote circular economy practices. These efforts focus on building energy-efficient networks in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The renewal of the MoU was signed by Sheikh Badr bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Beyon, and Nicholas Blixel, Vice President and Head of the GCC Region at Ericsson Middle East and Africa.
The positive results of the previous agreement in the field of sustainability, signed in early 2024, were also announced, which aims to support the efforts of both companies towards building a zero-emission future and achieving zero neutrality, in addition to the management of electronic and electrical waste (WEEE). One of the most notable achievements achieved during the year was the launch of the “Product Take-Back” programme, one of Ericsson’s most prominent initiatives, which addresses the issue of electronic waste that has become unusable, by recycling it or disposing it properly.
In addition, the MoU resulted in a 30% reduction in power consumption on Batelco’s network, through Ericsson’s 5G radio access network solutions. The collaboration also focuses on knowledge sharing, with monthly sessions featuring global experts to discuss climate action and the circular economy, as well as the joint efforts needed to achieve net neutrality goals.
Commenting on the renewal of the memorandum of understanding, Sheikh Badr bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Beyon, said: “Our partnership with Ericsson reflects the extent of Beyon’s commitment to its sustainability goals and environmental programs, which are in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision of zero neutrality. This partnership has proven “Its effectiveness in harnessing innovative technologies and applying the circular economy principle has achieved remarkable results in reducing the level of energy consumption and thus reducing the company’s environmental footprint.”
For his part, Nicholas Blixel, Vice President and Head of the GCC Region at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, said: “The results of our cooperation with Beyon demonstrate the vital role that technology plays in achieving sustainability goals. By leveraging our expertise and technologies, we have succeeded in achieving remarkable savings in the rate of energy consumption, and support Beyon’s efforts towards achieving zero neutrality.”
It is worth noting that Ericsson and Beyon have established a long-term partnership through its telecommunications subsidiary, Batelco. This collaboration in the field of sustainability is another significant step in their ongoing efforts to enhance network efficiency and improve environmental performance across all Beyon operations.
