"Alsco" Organizes the regional forum on the protection of underwater cultural heritage in the Arab world

The Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALECSO), organized the regional forum on “Protecting the Underwater Cultural Heritage in the Arab World.” In the presence of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Somaya Al-Sayed, Assistant Secretary-General of the National Committee for ALECSO Affairs, and Dr. Hamid Al-Nofali, Director of the Organization’s Culture Department and representative of ALECSO, and Major General Dr. Amr Abdel Moneim, Assistant Governor of Alexandria, under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Egyptian National Commission for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO – ALECSO – ISESCO).
11 Arab countries participated in the forum: Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, and a number of workers in the field of underwater cultural heritage in the Underwater Antiquities Sector of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and a library. Alexandria, the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University, the Faculty of Archeology at Cairo University, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the General Authority for Coast Protection, the Chamber of Diving Tourism and Marine Activities, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian and Arab Federation for Diving and Rescue and governmental and non-governmental organizations. Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Library of Alexandria, welcomed the attendees, expressing his happiness to host the forum and in cooperation with ALECSO and the League of Arab States, which would advance the Arab world by organizing this forum.
He stressed that the Library of Alexandria is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Which contains Egyptian antiquities and antiquities of the Arab world from different civilizations throughout the ages, as this forum encourages new discoveries that could rewrite history once again. The forum concluded its work with recommendations, including working to develop national legislation consistent with the UNESCO Underwater Heritage Convention 2001, integrating underwater cultural heritage into educational curricula, and developing study programs on At the university level, launching an Arab advisory committee for underwater heritage, developing interactive applications to involve young people in learning about underwater heritage, and working on the need for Arab national committees to play a role in implementing general recommendations and turning them into Activities and projects within the framework of cooperation between the Arab National Committees.
