المملكة: “Environment”… Increasing the efficiency of nitrogen fertilization in calcareous and sandy soils

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture recommended the necessity of improving the efficiency of nitrogen fertilization in the calcareous and sandy soils spread in many regions of the Kingdom, in order to achieve the best possible productivity while reducing waste resulting from volatilization and washing.

Facing the problem of poor fertilization

The Ministry indicated that one of the most important challenges facing these soils is poor fertilization efficiency, which leads to the loss of a large portion of the fertilizer before the plants can benefit from it.
To overcome this problem, it recommended reducing the amount of nitrogen fertilizer added per dose, while increasing the number of doses distributed over the agricultural season.

Objectives of the recommendations

These recommendations aim to optimize the use of nutrients, improve the quality and productivity of crops, in addition to reducing the environmental impact resulting from excessive loss of fertilizers.
This step comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to support farmers in adopting sustainable agricultural practices that contribute to achieving national food security and enhancing the efficiency of agricultural resources in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
