The UAE participates in the consultative meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group with… "Habitat"

Nairobi, April 4, 2017 – The UAE participated in the consultative meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group, with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Habitat, which was held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, with the participation of representatives of member states and diplomatic missions.
This comes within the framework of the UAE’s keenness to enhance its effective presence in international forums concerned with sustainable urban development, and to support global efforts aimed at developing cities and enhancing the quality of life, in line with the goals of the global urban agenda.
The meeting discussed the strategic priorities of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and reviewed the implementation of the strategic plan for the period 2026-2029, in addition to the (UN80) initiative, developments in regional projects, and countries’ participation in the World Urban Forum (WUF13), in a way that enhances the integration of visions and the exchange of best practices among member states.
The meeting also witnessed the exchange of interventions from participating countries, which contributes to strengthening regional coordination and unifying efforts to confront urban challenges, and support issues of sustainable housing and integrated urban planning, in light of the accelerating global changes.
During its participation, the state delegation stressed the importance of adopting flexible and sustainable development models, based on innovation and proactive planning, noting that the UAE’s experience in developing urban infrastructure represents an advanced global model that reflects the efficiency of the national system and its ability to adapt to various challenges, in a way that supports the achievement of comprehensive and sustainable urban development.
