"Civil aviation" The region’s first digital platform is launched to implement a plan "Corsia"

Dubai, December 30 / WAM / The General Civil Aviation Authority launched the first digital platform in the region to implement the carbon compensation and reduction plan in the field of international civil aviation (CORSIA), which is the global system that was approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) within a resolution The General Assembly issued in 2016 and the decision to implement it in 2019.
According to a press release issued today, this digital platform is a pivotal tool in implementing the CORSIA plan, as it facilitates the process of calculating the compensation and reduction values resulting from the use of carbon units by national carriers.
The CORSIA plan aims to provide an organized way to reduce emissions resulting from international aviation and reduce them to the minimum possible, while respecting the special circumstances and capabilities of each country, through the commitment of national carriers and air operators to compensate for the amount of carbon dioxide emissions they emit, which cannot be achieved. Reduced through the use of technological improvements, operational improvements and sustainable aviation fuel in emission units from the carbon market.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said that the UAE is committed to complying with all global and international requirements that will reduce the negative impact resulting from international emissions of national airline flights, and the country has taken the initiative, since the first decision issued by ICAO related to on the issue of climate change for the aviation sector in 2010, by announcing its support for ICAO’s efforts in this vital file, and continuing its cooperation with the organization’s member states to achieve all the goals that were set to reduce international emissions in the aviation sector. The most prominent of which is the recent decision adopted in November 2023 in Dubai called the “Dubai International Aviation Fuels Framework” and its ambitious goal of reducing emissions for the international aviation sector by 5% by 2030.
Al Suwaidi added that the CORSIA system is the only globally approved system for application, and all standards related to fuel and its future fall within the standards of this system, and today’s launch of this digital platform is an affirmation of our commitment as a country to employ digital solutions to enhance the sustainability and continuity of the work of this ambitious system within the country as well as at the international level. Under the umbrella of ICAO.
The launch of the digital platform represents a transitional phase from the traditional submission of data, which continued for 4 years by the national airlines committed to “CORSIA” to the representative of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, which consumed a lot of time and effort in reviewing it, approving it, and then submitting it to the ICAO registry. Through the platform, time has been shortened and a fortified archive of all national emissions records has been created, providing a system that is confidential and easy to use by Emirati carriers, and will also reduce human errors.
In addition, the digital platform provides an important archival system and digital record of international emissions data, which will serve in the future any new applications developed in this vital file related to the processes of calculating the value of compensation and reduction that will result from the use of carbon units in aviation.
