Photos| In tears…the funeral of the Egyptian singer Ahmed Adawiya

Hundreds of people mourned the body of Egyptian popular singer Ahmed Adawiya, who died yesterday after a long struggle with illness, from a mosque in the Maadi neighborhood in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Many of Adawiya’s fans were moved and cried, as the funeral was attended by artists, most notably the head of the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate, Mustafa Kamel, singer Abdel Baset Hamouda, and Helmy Abdel Baqi.

Egyptian popular singer Ahmed Adawiya passed away on Sunday evening, at the age of 79, after a struggle with illness.
Singer Muhammad Adawiya, son of the late singer, announced the death of his father, through his account on the Facebook application.
He wrote: “May God have mercy on you, Baba. May God have mercy on the kind-hearted, tender-hearted, and compassionate.”
Director Amr Salama also announced the news of Adawiya’s death via his official Facebook account, and wrote: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return. Ahmed Adawiya’s uncle, the father of my friend and my brother, the star Muhammad Adawiya, has passed away.”

Singer Ahmed Mohamed Morsi, known as “Ahmed Adawiya,” was born on June 26, 1945. He was one of the most prominent popular singers in Egypt during the 1970s.
He has many famous songs, and he also participated in a number of films during his artistic career.
