Puerto Rico rings in the new year with a total power outage

A power outage covered most of Puerto Rico on Tuesday morning, as this American territory prepared to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
Loma Energy, a private company that supervises the transmission and distribution of electricity throughout the region, said on Tuesday that more than 1.2 million out of 1.47 million customers were without electricity.
It was not immediately clear what caused the widespread power outage, or when it was expected to return.

Attempts to solve the problem
Loma said on the social media site X that she is in contact with crews and companies that oversee power generation in Puerto Rico to resolve the issue.
She added that she would provide details as soon as possible.
