Merchants to Al-Watan: The demand for buying used furniture is booming with the camping season

Loyalty of both parties

Owners of used furniture stores confirmed that sales increased in conjunction with the camping season and the academic year, noting that most of the goods are provided by restaurants, offices, and companies and sold after being cleaned and repainted.

They added to Al-Watan that the challenge they face in their profession is that they depend on foreigners for their activity by approximately 80%.

The owner of the Bh_used account for used furniture explained that the demand for this type of furniture increases with the camping season, especially carpets and floor chairs, stressing that stores benefit from recycling furniture, modifying it, cleaning it, dyeing it, and selling it again, and the furniture is evaluated according to its condition, quality, year of manufacture, and duration of consumption.

He considered that the biggest challenge in the stagnation of the used furniture market in Bahrain lies in the dependence of used furniture stores on foreigners by 80% for purchases, which causes a challenge in terms of attracting the national customer to buy used furniture.

For his part, Ali, the owner of a used furniture store, confirmed that used furniture stores have become an integral part of the Bahraini market, as some depend on furnishing their homes from these stores due to their reasonable prices, which are within everyone’s reach.

He said: “Customers are in great demand for home furniture of all kinds, such as floor sittings, chairs, bedrooms, electronic kitchen furniture, and aluminum kitchens,” noting that stores buy old furniture pieces from restaurants, offices, and companies.

For his part, Ammar, owner of Amwaj Al Bahrain Trading Company, pointed out that the demand for buying and selling used furniture is increasing, and that stores are benefiting from used furniture, through transportation, dismantling and installation services, in addition to a small percentage of the purchase rate.

He pointed out that the challenge in selling used furniture lies in the quality of the goods, the level of cleanliness, and the price, in addition to the merchant having the ability or experience in how to buy, sell, and market, whether through social media or through direct sales.

He said, “People accept to buy clean, good, and discounted items, especially at the beginning of the school year when traffic increases, but when there are offers in stores selling new furniture, the demand for used furniture decreases.”

He explained that used furniture stores in Bahrain are witnessing a remarkable proliferation, and there is strong and noticeable competition in the market, especially through social media, as many apartment and house owners are now displaying used furniture through advertising accounts.
