Ukrainian forces launch a counterattack in Russia’s Kursk region

The Ukrainian government announced on Sunday that Ukrainian forces had begun a new attack in the Kursk region in western Russia, following their sudden incursion into the region last summer, according to what DPA reported.
Andriy Yermak, director of the Ukrainian President’s Office, said via the Telegram application, “Kursk region, good news: Russia is getting what it deserves,” indirectly confirming what military bloggers reported about a new advance in Kursk.
Andrei Kovalenko, head of the Anti-Disinformation Center of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, who reports to the Ukrainian president, explained that Russian forces were surprised by the attack in the Kursk region, noting that Ukrainian attacks are continuing in several directions.
The Ukrainian army did not initially release any information about the attacks, according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.
On the other hand, Moscow announced that Kiev had begun a “counterattack” in the Kursk region in southern Russia, where Ukrainian forces have controlled hundreds of square kilometers since the attack it launched in August 2024.

American missiles

Russia said that its army succeeded in repelling a Ukrainian attack using long-range American-made Atakam missiles, yesterday, in the Belgorod border region.
In response to this attack, Moscow threatens to retaliate, while the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement via Telegram that it shot down all of the missiles that were launched.

Russia threatens

She confirmed that Moscow would respond appropriately, and last November, US President Joe Biden had allowed Kiev to launch attacks on some targets inside Russia using American “Atakham” missiles.
