Moscow accuses Kiev of assassinating the chief engineer of the Zaporizhya nuclear plant

Aleksey Likhachev, head of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, said "Rosatum" On Wednesday, Alexander Yakovlev was killed in a terrorist attack targeting him, launched by the Kiev regime.
He explained that Yakovlev was killed in a strike by a Ukrainian Armed Forces drone on a car near the station, also announcing the death of the driver.
Likhachev said in a post on Rosatom’s account on the Telegram application, that Yakovlev devoted his entire life to nuclear energy, and was killed while performing his duty.

There had previously been no mention of Yakovlev in the station’s and Rosatom’s Telegram accounts.
The director appointed by Moscow to run the station, Yuri Chernychuk, a former chief engineer, usually spoke on its behalf.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called on the IAEA to condemn the murder.
Russian forces took control On the Zaporizhya station in March 2022, shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Zaporizhya station is considered the largest nuclear power station in Europe, and both sides of the conflict are exchanging accusations of launching strikes in the vicinity of the facility located on the bank of the Dnipro River, which is a natural line of contact between them.
