ABU DHABI, 6 JANUARY / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club announced the organization of the Grand Al Dhafra Kingfishing Championship competitions, during the period from 10 to 12 January, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler’s representative in Al Dhafra Region, starting from three main locations: the port, Abu Dhabi Corniche, and Dalma Island.
The details of the tournament were announced in a press conference held today, at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, in the presence of a number of sports leaders and representatives of the organizers, sponsors and supporters of the upcoming event.
The tournament witnesses a wide participation of professional and amateur fishermen from both men’s and women’s categories, competing for a total of 1,168,000 dirhams in prize money, distributed among the first 60 places, in addition to daily prizes aimed at motivating participants and enhancing competition.
Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, confirmed that the tournament reflects the emirate’s vision in strengthening its position as a global sports and heritage destination, noting that it aims to preserve the UAE’s marine heritage and support the sport of traditional fishing in a way that enhances the values of authenticity, sustainability, and protection. the environment.
He said that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s support for all events and for this event in particular reflects the wise leadership’s keenness to consolidate national identity and preserve the rich maritime heritage of the UAE, as well as promoting sports and cultural tourism in the Al Dhafra region.
Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, praised the pioneering role of the Grand Al Dhafra Kingfishing Championship, which is one of the important initiatives to promote and preserve marine heritage for future generations, which enhances the values of the ancient Emirati heritage and the importance of man’s connection to the sea as an essential part.
