Following the rainy situation… Weqa Center in Makkah Al-Mukarramah intensifies its efforts to combat disease vectors

The Director General of the Waqa Center branch in the Makkah region, Dr. Ghaleb bin Abdul-Ghani Al-Saedi, held a meeting with the Risk, Emergency and Business Continuity Committee, at the branch’s headquarters in Jeddah, to follow up on the progress of disease vector control work, following the rainy situation witnessed by a number of governorates in the region. During the meeting, Reviewing the readiness of field teams to deal with potential risks during the first quarter of 2025, in addition to preparations for the Hajj season, including emergency teams concerned with animal and plant health.

Dr. Al-Saadi confirmed that the animal health teams in the branch and the center’s offices in the Holy Capital and the governorates of Taif, Qunfudhah, and Rania work periodically to implement the operational plan for field surveys and entomological and larval surveys, focusing on the targeted sites, including ponds and water swamps located (outside the urban area), with the aim of identifying insect types. The extent of their danger, and taking appropriate measures to treat insect breeding sites using biological, environmental and chemical treatment.

He added that these efforts come within the framework of promoting the “One Health” concept, to limit the spread of vector-borne diseases, especially in light of the formation of water swamps after the recent rains, which are a suitable environment for insect breeding.
