Deaths and great destruction in the Tibet earthquake

An earthquake occurred in the Tibet region of the Himalayas in southwest China, the day before yesterday, killing at least 126 people and causing the collapse of many buildings, while it was felt in neighboring areas such as Nepal. The Chinese National Seismological Agency reported that the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Canton. Dingri, near the Chinese-Nepalese border, while the American Institute of Geological Studies reported that the intensity of the earthquake reached 7.1 degrees.

The new Chinese news agency, Xinhua, announced that “126 people were confirmed dead and 188 others were injured,” while a previous toll was 95 dead.

Video clips broadcast by Chinese television CCTV showed white houses at high altitudes with destroyed walls, collapsed roofs, and stones scattered on the ground.

Other scenes broadcast by the channel depicted vehicles smashed under bricks, and customers in a store fleeing as products fell from the shelves due to the earthquake.

In other videos from the Chinese public television channel, firefighters in orange uniforms appeared at the disaster sites, while they were standing amid the rubble with survivors nearby.

CCTV said, “Residents in and around Dingri Canton felt the vibrations strongly, and many buildings collapsed near the epicenter.”
