The French authorities in the north of the country announced the death of two people, and the injury of 20 others, due to the cold wave that brought with it snow and ice.
The authorities said in a statement on Thursday that one of the dead men slipped on a sidewalk and violently hit his head. The statement added that the other person was found dead in the town of Valenciennes.

Rescue efforts
