Coinciding with the fires, winter storms cancel classes in American schools

Another wave of winter storms on Thursday closed schools, disrupted flights and put millions of residents on alert in areas of the southern United States, where snow and rain posed travel risks.
The storm began Thursday morning, flooding North Texas and Oklahoma with a mixture of hail and heavy snow, as schools canceled classes for more than a million students.
Hundreds of flights were canceled by Thursday morning in Dallas, according to flight tracking platform FlightAware, with more than 2,100 flight delays and 1,500 cancellations reported nationwide.

The cold snap coincided with rare wildfires that broke out this January in the Los Angeles area, forcing residents to flee their burning homes through flames, strong winds and towering clouds of smoke.

The forest fires that swept through the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in the American city of Los Angeles forced many Hollywood stars, including Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore and James Woods, to evacuate their homes.

Firefighters in California are fighting fires sweeping the region due to the winds, which have destroyed homes and closed roads as tens of thousands have fled, which has exhausted resources.
The fire broke out early Wednesday but was unable to be contained.
