3 people were killed in a stampede in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus

Damascus Governor Maher Marwan reported that three people were killed on Friday in a stampede that took place in the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, according to what was reported by the official Syrian news agency SANA.
The governor said, “An unfortunate incident occurred today in the Grand Umayyad Mosque as a result of a stampede during one of the civil activities held in the mosque and its surroundings, which resulted in the death of three people and the injury of a number of others.”
The Syrian News Agency quoted Marwan as saying: “We are following up with the Ministry of Interior on the course of the investigation to find out the details of the incident and its causes, and we will take all necessary measures to hold those responsible for its occurrence accountable.”
