Dubai, 11 January / WAM / Influencers participating in the One Billion Followers Summit currently hosted by Dubai have confirmed that social media platforms have become an essential element for content creators, especially authors, writers and artists, to ensure that their content reaches the largest number of followers and interested people around the world with the necessary speed and at the right time.
Osama Al-Musallam, a Saudi writer and author who won the National Award in Saudi Literature, explained on the sidelines of his participation in the “One Billion Followers Summit” that social media platforms have become an essential element for writers and authors and are no longer a luxury, but rather a necessity to reach the largest number of readers and consumers of content.
He stressed, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that publishing works in their traditional form is no longer sufficient to reach readers and followers, but rather it has become necessary to interact and communicate with the target group directly.
He pointed out that social media contributes to disseminating news about books and authors more quickly than before, but if the book is not good, these means may harm the writer instead of helping him. Therefore, it is important that the content itself is excellent and that this content is communicated well through these means. Platforms.
He pointed out that social media has affected publishing houses, which were considered the mediator between the writer and his audience, and the writer is now able to self-publish and communicate directly with his audience, which may lead to the disappearance of publishing houses in the future. Noting that self-publishing is on the rise and the writer has become self-reliant for publishing, proofreading and promotion.
The writer talked about audio books and paper books, as each of them has a special audience. Some may start with the audio book and then switch to the paper book, and vice versa, according to circumstances and needs, as the audio book is a suitable option for those who want to listen while exercising or driving.
The Muslim writer urged new authors to write what they love and want and not be bound by the influences surrounding them, calling on them to be free to choose their ideas.
For his part, Mohamed Taher, an art critic and content maker from Egypt, said that the beginning of his experience was explaining artistic works to the public, especially complex and unclear events, which makes the audience not fully understand them. Therefore, he decided to make a video to explain the artistic work to a circle of family and friends. This was his first attempt to communicate the idea in a clear way. Simple, adding that the video was admired by everyone and was considered one of the first videos to represent this style on social media platforms.
He pointed out that the idea then developed to turn it into content for people interested in stories, whether they were stories related to cinema or even historical stories from ancient Egypt. He discovered that their audience loves listening to these stories on platforms such as YouTube.
He touched on the challenges they faced in creating content, explaining that despite some criticism, effort and hard work ultimately resulted in content that was admired by the audience.
Regarding the challenges of content creation at the present time and the problem of property rights facing content makers, he explained that there are companies dedicated to monitoring who owns the rights to the materials, which complicates the process of fair use of content, stressing that most content makers on YouTube rely on this platform because it provides a safe environment that allows them to use Content is legally protected and in accordance with copyright.
