Maitha Al Suwaidi: The UAE is a global model in developing the content industry sector

DUBAI, 14 JANUARY / WAM / Her Excellency Maitha Majid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Media Strategy and Policies Sector at the Emirates Media Council, confirmed that the UAE represents a global model in developing the content industry sector, noting that the country has invested over more than 25 years in building an infrastructure. Advanced infrastructure, attracting talent from all over the world, and developing stimulating legislation that keeps pace with global changes.
This came during her participation in a session entitled “Infrastructure for the Content Creation Economy” at the One Billion Followers Summit, which concluded its activities yesterday in Dubai, with the participation of His Excellency Abdul Rahman Majrashi, Head of the Government Communication Center and official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Information.
Maitha Al Suwaidi said that the content industry sector is witnessing rapid growth and provides exceptional economic opportunities that must be taken advantage of and built upon to continue the growth and prosperity of this new sector.
She explained that the size of the content industry sector currently amounts to $250 billion, and is expected to exceed $500 billion in the coming years, likening its size to the gross domestic product of a country like Singapore or five European countries combined, such as Iceland, Luxembourg, Malta, Estonia, and Cyprus.
She stressed that the UAE’s legislative system constitutes a fundamental pillar for stimulating the content industry economy, noting that the country is constantly working to update legislation to keep pace with the rapid transformations in the digital and media sector, with the aim of protecting the rights of influencers and the public and enhancing transparency and adherence to professional standards.
