المملكة: Starting today…the Kingdom participates in the Ministerial Meeting of the World Trade Organization
Share The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Fourteenth Ministerial Conference For the World Trade Organization (MC14), held in the city of Yaounde In Cameroon during the period 29 – 26 March of this year, headed by the Deputy Governor of the General Authority for Foreign Trade for International Agreements and Organizations, Farid bin Saeed Al-Asali, on behalf of the Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi.
The conference, in its 14th edition, aims to emphasize the importance of the World Trade Organization in the international trading system, and to emphasize the importance of reforming the organization.
It will also discuss a number of topics on its agenda, most notably the reform of the World Trade Organization, development issues and least developed countries, the e-commerce work program, and the inclusion of the two agreements on facilitating investment for development and e-commerce within the legal framework of the organization.
Meeting of Arab Ministers of Trade
In the framework of preparation for participation in the conference, This month, the Kingdom hosted the ministerial meeting of Arab trade ministers preparatory to the conference, through its efforts as it held the position of coordinator of the Arab group at the World Trade Organization for 8 sessions since 2011.
The ministerial meeting of Arab trade ministers aims to coordinate the negotiating positions of the group of Arab countries and define their demands to the World Trade Organization, in a way that enhances the ability of Arab countries to contribute effectively to the discussions of the fourteenth Ministerial Conference, and achieve balanced results that reflect their interests and priorities.
An effective role. For the Arab countries
The ministerial statement of the Arab trade ministers affirmed the commitment of the Arab countries to playing an effective and constructive role in the Fourteenth Ministerial Conference, which will devote efforts to ensuring the success and achievement of results that address the needs and priorities of members from developing and least developed countries, including Arab countries.
The statement stressed the utmost importance of ensuring the access of food and agricultural inputs to all parts of the world, the necessity of imposing unjustified export restrictions and trade barriers, and the importance of empowering developing countries to increase their share in global trade.
/>The volume of the Kingdom’s trade exchange with member states of the World Trade Organization amounted to about 537 billion dollars, while its exports amounted to approximately 305 billion dollars during the year 2024.
