Urgent.. An officer with the rank of major is nominated for the position of US Secretary of Defense

Pete Hegseth, US President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, was questioned in the Senate.
Hegseth had served as an officer in the Minnesota National Guard and then in the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of major. He was deployed three times on overseas military missions at Guantanamo Bay, a platoon leader in Iraq, and then taught counterinsurgency tactics in Afghanistan.
Pete Hegseth, born June 6, 1980, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a television personality. American and former US Army National Guard officer and co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend from 2017 to 2024, and while on the program he became known for his conservative views, is a supporter of Donald Trump, and after Trump was elected to a second term as president in 2024, nominated him for the position of US Secretary of Defense.

The Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for Hegseth on Tuesday, when US senators had the opportunity to question Trump’s defense nominee. One Democrat in particular caused… Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, was caught in a storm of reaction on social media when she asked Hegseth whether he would invade Greenland or seize the Panama Canal.
Hegseth answered the question by saying, “Trump is not strategically playing his cards.” “I will not publicly declare in any way or another the directing of the president’s orders.”
Regarding the assault on demonstrators if US President Trump requests the implementation of this order.
Hegseth said: “I was In a National Guard unit in Washington, D.C. that was in Lafayette Square during those events, and I was carrying the riot shield on behalf of my country,” Hegseth responded. "I saw 50 Secret Service agents get hurt by riot control agents."
Hirono also asked Hegseth about the sexual assault allegations and allegations that he drank on the job – both of which he repeatedly denied.
