Al Qasimia University organizes its international conference "Teaching Arabic to non-native speakers"

Sharjah, 16 January / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the activities of the Al Qasimia University International Conference were launched yesterday under the title “Teaching the Arabic Language to Speakers of Other Languages: Curriculum and Specificity,” with wide participation from Arabic language teaching experts. The specialists included 59 male and female researchers representing 40 scientific and educational institutions belonging to 20 nationalities from around the world.

The conference, which was opened by His Excellency Professor Jamal Al-Tarifi, President of Al Qasimia University, will last for two days and is organized by the university and in cooperation with the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah.

The conference aims to review the latest curricula and mechanisms for teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers, with a focus on its cultural specificity and importance as a bridge for cultural communication between peoples, with broad academic participation from the universities of Mohammed bin Zayed for the Humanities, Salamanca in Spain, Cagliari in Italy, Belgrade in Serbia, and the Educational Center for the Arabic Language for the Gulf States. .

In his welcome speech, His Excellency Professor Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of Al Qasimia University, appreciated the support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for many pioneering initiatives that contribute to enhancing the status of the Arabic language globally, developing its teaching methods and preserving its identity, so that the Emirate of Sharjah and its ruler recorded the first success of the Arab nation in completing the dictionary. The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language is the largest historical dictionary in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

He stressed Al Qasimia University’s keenness to achieve His Highness’s vision in providing many innovative initiatives, including issuing the “Al Qasimia University Series on Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages” and launching the “Mubeen” platform to be a global space that provides educational materials designed in an interactive manner to teach the Arabic language to non-native speakers to achieve the university’s vision. Its global mission is to spread the Arabic language.

For his part, Professor Dr. Hassan Al-Malakh, Academic Vice President and Chairman of the Scientific Committee, stressed that holding this conference represents an important step to strengthen the status of the Arabic language as a global human language distinguished by its beauty and power in expressing diverse cultures, with the participation of an elite group of scholars, specialists and researchers from more than 20 countries. They presented specialized research papers that were carefully and objectively selected after being subjected to rigorous scientific review.

The conference sessions dealt with curricula for teaching Arabic and the location of language skills in it, books for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, its cultural specificity, and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers: controls, foundations and future visions, in addition to two training workshops on the sidelines of the conference on strategies for teaching reading skills, and the professionalism of teaching the Al Qasimia University Series for Language Teaching. Arabic for non-native speakers, a pavilion for Arabic language book publications at the Sharjah Regional Office of ISESCO, and Al Qasimia University publications in the service of the Arabic language. And its sciences.
