ABU DHABI, 21 March / WAM / The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi announced the completion and opening of two new bridges linking Al Reem Island to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance public infrastructure and support traffic flow in the emirate.

The implementation of the project, which cost approximately 450 million dirhams, aims to accommodate up to 7,200 vehicles per hour and facilitate access to areas of the emirate, including the city center and Saadiyat Island, in addition to the roads leading to the Emirate of Dubai.

The project also includes the construction of a wraparound bridge linking Zayed Port and Saadiyat Island, which will contribute to facilitating the movement of trucks and enhancing public safety levels.

The project is expected to contribute to reducing the average travel time during the morning and evening peak times by up to 60%, equivalent to about 15 minutes, which reflects the direct positive impact on daily traffic.

His Excellency Engineer Issa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at the Department of Municipalities and Transport, confirmed that the Department continues to work on developing an efficient and flexible transportation network capable of keeping pace with the rapid growth witnessed by the capital, within a long-term strategic vision that ensures the sustainability of ease of transportation, and reflects the emirate’s commitment to building infrastructure according to the highest standards of architecture and sustainability.

The total length of the two bridges is 1.5 km, and they cover an area exceeding 25,000 square metres. They were constructed using advanced in situ casting technology for box bridges, ensuring the highest levels of strength and durability.

The project also includes the construction of 12 marine pillars in the shape of the letter “V”, providing a wider space for maritime traffic.

The project components also include a bridge designated for services, 71 lighting poles, in addition to wooded areas, and designated pedestrian and bicycle paths with a length of up to two kilometers.

The project implementation phase took about 5 million working hours, during which 35,000 cubic meters of ready-mixed concrete were used, an achievement that reflects the scale of the efforts made to develop the emirate’s transportation system in accordance with the highest international standards.
