release "UAE Essay Award" To support creative writing and journalistic excellence

Dubai, January 16 / WAM / Today, Thursday, the Dubai Press Club hosted the press conference to announce the launch of a new initiative that serves to support the intellectual, cultural and creative scene in the UAE, and to enhance the field of journalistic work in the UAE by celebrating creativity and excellence in one of its most important arts. It is the art of “writing the article”.
During the press conference, the launch of the “Emirati Article Award” was announced, where the Award’s Board of Trustees revealed its details and the desired objectives of launching this new initiative, in the presence of Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice President and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, President of the Dubai Press Club, members of the Award’s Board of Trustees, and a group of… Representatives of local and Arab media.
His Excellency Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, founder of the Emirati Essay Award, expressed his deep thanks and appreciation for the cooperation of the Dubai Press Club with the General Secretariat of the Award and the good organization of the conference to announce the launch of the Award and open the door for registration to officially begin its activity, stressing that the Award is expected to be further developed in its upcoming sessions, and welcomes all ideas that are presented. This will support the objectives of the award and enable it to achieve its desired goal of discovering more pens capable of providing real added value to the Emirati media page.
Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Emirati Essay Award, also spoke; He said that the article is a fine journalistic art that deserves all the attention and encouragement in the UAE and the celebration of its distinguished people, at a time when calls are being raised to discover more creative article writers from the sons and daughters of the Emirates, and to provide them with the necessary incentives so that their star will shine in the world of articles and journalistic writing.
Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah explained that the aim of the award is to advance the art of the Emirati essay, expressing the hope of the award’s Board of Trustees that it will be a reason for the Emirati essay to reach the international level, so that it keeps pace with the great and prestigious position that the UAE enjoys on the international arena.
The speakers stressed the importance of the “essay” as it requires multiple skills, including the ability to analyze and think critically, master the language, and present the argument in a convincing and logical manner, while the article contributes to enlightening minds, opening horizons of dialogue, and enhancing society’s awareness about various topics, especially those affecting… His daily life and the developments of his society, as a bridge between the writer and the reader, while the art of writing the article remains a vital tool for confronting intellectual and cultural challenges, playing an essential role in shaping collective awareness, and motivating societies for deep thinking and positive change.
During the press conference, the details of the award, which will be organized annually, were revealed, as the award’s Board of Trustees will supervise its work and activities, in cooperation with a jury of qualified people to evaluate the works nominated for the award, and to select the winners within the various award categories.
The Board of Trustees of the Emirati Essay Award includes an elite group of brilliant writers and media professionals, including: His Excellency Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, founder of the award, Dr. Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and members Dr. Maryam Al Hashemi, Dr. Suleiman Al-Jassem, Mira Al-Janahi, Jamal Al-Shehhi, and Reem Al-Kamali.
The Emirati Essay Award consists of six categories, the prize for each of which is 10,000 dirhams, and includes: the literary article, the intellectual article, the economic article, the social article, the political article, and the scientific article.

The Literary Article Award is given to the article that presents an issue in literature and its branches or a critical reading of any literary genre belonging to Emirati creative pens.

The Intellectual Article Award is given to the article that discusses an intellectual or philosophical issue related to the intellectual and cultural reality of the UAE, while the Economic Article Award is given to the article related to the UAE’s economy in any of its various sectors.
The Social Article Award is given to the article that presents a distinguished topic related to Emirati society, while the Political Article Award goes to the article that presents a distinguished topic about the policies of the UAE, while the Scientific Article Award is won by the article that deals with the knowledge revolution and addresses the UAE’s aspirations in the field of uses of artificial intelligence.
During the press conference, the conditions for nomination for the award were revealed, as the candidate must be a citizen of the UAE, and the article must touch on a contemporary Emirati topic, have originality, creativity, and depth in its treatment, and it must not be published or submitted for another award. The article is also required to be written. In proper Arabic language, and the number of words should not be less than 1000 words and not more than 2000 words. The candidate also has the right to submit one text in one branch of Award, and if artificial intelligence technology is used in writing the article, the writer is obligated to clarify this.
With the door open for nominations for the award starting today (Thursday), the deadline for receiving participating articles will be March 16, 2025, with the winning articles being revealed and the winners being honored during the month of May 2025.
