Emirates Global Aluminum supplied the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center with solar-powered aluminum “Celestial” at its location in Jebel Ali, and the metal was formed to manufacture the basic parts of the “Mohammed bin Zayed Sat” satellite through one of the company’s local partners.

The cooperation between the company and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center is a prominent step for the UAE space sector in implementing the “Make in the UAE” initiative. It also supports the “300 Billion Project” strategy and achieves the UAE’s goal of strengthening its position in the field of global space exploration.

His Excellency Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, stressed the Centre’s continued commitment to supporting the diversification of the national economy and enhancing its growth through fruitful strategic partnerships. He added that the adoption of locally produced components reflects the country’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its space missions and consolidating its position as a global center for innovation and pioneering partnerships.

For his part, Abdul Nasser bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminum, said that the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center’s use of “Celestial” aluminum from Emirates Global Aluminium, confirms the extremely important role that sustainable innovation plays in shaping the future of space technology and the industrial system. He expressed the company’s pride in the arrival of “Celestial” aluminum, made with solar energy, into space, stressing that Emirates Global Aluminum is the first company in the world to produce aluminum commercially using solar energy.

The Mohammed bin Zayed Sat satellite was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA, and features the latest technologies capable of generating high-resolution images in large quantities.

The aluminum manufactured by Emirates Global Aluminum is one of the country’s largest locally manufactured exports, as it is sold in more than 50 countries around the world. In 2021, Emirates Aluminum became the first company in the world to produce aluminum commercially using solar energy through an agreement with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. .

Aluminum has been considered an essential material in space exploration since the launch of the first artificial satellite in 1957, due to its light weight, strength and resistance to corrosion.
