المملكة: “Transport”: Preventing foreign trucks from entering public utility markets without a permit

The General Authority for Transport stressed the need for establishments and farmers to obtain a permit before contracting with foreign trucks to transport goods within the Kingdom, as part of its efforts to regulate the land transport sector and protect local markets.

The number of violations increases and the ban is widespread

The Authority revealed an increase in the number of violations for foreign trucks illegally practicing transportation activity within the Kingdom, as the number of violations reached 26,000 violations in 2024, compared to 8,569 violations in 2023.
The Authority confirmed in a circular to the Federation of Chambers that foreign trucks are prohibited from entering the markets supervised by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, such as “markets for public goods, livestock, fodder, etc.,” unless they obtain a permit issued by the General Authority for Transport.

Control violations

The Authority explained that the supervisory operations showed the presence of foreign trucks practicing the activity of transporting goods within the Kingdom in an irregular manner, stressing the importance of all parties adhering to the laws and regulations to achieve fair competition and support the national economy.
It is noteworthy that the regulations governing the activity of transporting goods and renting trucks allow licensed establishments to operate additional transport vehicles through operating or rental contracts, while bearing full responsibility for transport operations. The regulation also prohibits the use of private transport vehicles in goods transport activity, and requires all goods carriers to install tracking devices and link to the authority’s platform.
