Sharjah free zones attract 1,600 international companies

Sharjah, January 21, 2017 – The free zones in the Emirate of Sharjah will, during the year 2024, strengthen their key role in consolidating the emirate’s position as one of the most important attractive destinations for local, regional and international companies.
The free zones in the emirate have recorded qualitative achievements in attracting qualitative investments by attracting more than 1,600 companies from various countries of the world, most notably the United States of America, India, Japan, Britain, Spain, Belgium, and many African countries.
During the past year, the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority attracted 900 companies working in various fields such as heavy industries, marine industries, ship repair, oil and energy, steel and iron, and other fields.
In confirmation of its distinction, the Hamriyah Free Zone received, for the second time, the awards for the best free zone in the world for the year 2024, the best free industrial zone recognized for excellence in the world, and the best free industrial zone recognized for excellence in the Middle East, which were awarded by the magazine ” FDI, affiliated with the Financial Times.
As for the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone Authority, during 2024, it succeeded in attracting more than 700 international and local companies specialized in several fields, including the manufacture of perfumes and cosmetics, and the manufacture of medical lenses.
The Authority continued to strengthen its position as a regional destination for investments specialized in the gold, jewelry and gemstone industry, through the Authority’s Gold, Diamonds and Commodities Complex, which is one of the largest centers for gold refineries in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as it includes more than 55 gold refineries and is considered home to more than 250 companies. Regional and international specialized in the field of manufacturing and trading gold, platinum, silver, and titanium metals.
Saud Salem Al Mazrouei, Director of the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority and the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone Authority, confirmed in a special statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the achievements achieved by the two zones during the year 2024 come thanks to the care and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council. The Ruler of Sharjah, in his efforts to exert maximum efforts to enhance the economic diversification of the emirate and achieve high competitiveness of its free zones, to continue its role in attracting foreign direct investments and sustaining its growth. He added that the two regions are considered two leading investment destinations in the Middle East and the world, as they host more than 15,000 companies from 160 countries around the world.
He pointed out that these achievements constitute an incentive for the free zones in Sharjah to continue their active development role and enhance their contribution to the emirate’s economy during 2025, especially in light of the sustainable growth witnessed by the emirate’s economic performance in general, thanks to the diversity and integration of its sectors and their harmony with the emirate’s ambitions and development plans.
He pointed out that the emirate’s general budget for the year 2025 witnessed the allocation of 27% of the total budget to the economic development sector, in addition to the infrastructure sector ranking first among the general budget sectors, constituting 41% of the total budget, which contributes to strengthening the capacity of Al Hamriyah Free Zone and Free Airport. Sharjah International Airport aims to attract major foreign and local investments in all vital sectors, in addition to their important role in facilitating the movement of goods globally.
During 2024, the Hamriyah Free Zone and the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone Authority held many meetings with investors and representatives of major international companies, with the aim of highlighting their role as a center for global trade, and identifying the needs of investors wishing to invest in Sharjah, by visiting a number of countries in different countries. regions of the world and participate in many international and local exhibitions in all sectors.
During 2024, the two regions were keen to develop flexible and comprehensive work environments supported by digital technologies and modern technology, as the total number of smart services provided by the two regions to their customers has become 600 services that enhance performance efficiency, facilitate doing business, and move investors’ experience to a stage of efficiency, speed and excellence.
The two regions sought to enhance environmental sustainability by adopting innovative strategies to develop an integrated system of environmental services, through a strategic partnership with Bee’ah Group, in addition to organizing events and workshops aimed at encouraging companies and investors to adopt effective environmental solutions with a focus on rationalizing energy consumption and preserving energy. on natural resources and reducing emissions.
