المملكة: To enhance innovation.. the Kingdom joins the Hague International Design Agreement

The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property announced that the Kingdom has joined the Hague International Design Agreement, which is one of the main intellectual property treaties administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The agreement aims to help creative designers to promote and market their designs and excel in their work, thus protecting their work regionally and internationally. Joining confirms the Kingdom’s interest in promoting creativity and innovation, which contributes to strengthening the national economy.

The Hague International Design Agreement

WIPO indicated that, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest economy in the Middle East, its membership reflects its commitment to innovation to secure the rights of designers, paving the way for wider adoption of the Hague Agreement in the region.

Meanwhile, the Authority’s CEO, Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailem, explained that the Kingdom’s accession to the Hague Agreement will contribute effectively to facilitating the journey of protecting designs for their owners by registering in the countries they choose from among the member states of the agreement, which will enable them to market and sell their works in a way that achieves effective protection and management for them in countries. Different and with the least possible procedures.

The Kingdom has deposited its instrument of accession to the agreement for it to enter into force on April 7, 2025, becoming the 99th country to join the agreement.
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia joined as a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 1982.
