“Davos 2025″… World leaders call for strengthening action on artificial intelligence and climate

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, warned during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, “Davos 2025,” of two escalating global threats: the unrestrained expansion of artificial intelligence and the climate crisis, noting that these challenges pose unprecedented risks to humanity and require immediate and united action from governments. And the private sector.
Regarding artificial intelligence, Guterres acknowledged its enormous potential, but warned of the dangers of leaving it uncontrolled, pointing to the Global Digital Charter adopted at the United Nations as a roadmap for harnessing digital technology responsibly.
Guterres called on the private sector not to back away from its climate commitments, and called on governments to fulfill their promises to prepare new national climate action plans at the economy level this year.
For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called for reform and governance of social media across the European Union to reduce misinformation and electronic harassment, and urged stronger enforcement of the Digital Services Law and expanding the powers of the European Center for Transparency.
The largest tropical forest reserve in the world
For his part, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Chilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, announced the establishment of the largest tropical forest reserve in the world, which will protect more than 550,000 square kilometers of forests throughout the Congo River Basin.
This unprecedented, historic initiative will transform not only our landscapes, but also the livelihoods of millions of our citizens, he said, adding that the initiative goes far beyond environmental conservation and includes economic development.
As he prepares to assume the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his optimism about the future of the 10-nation association and Malaysia’s role in it.
He pointed out that the spirit of cooperation and teamwork among the leaders of the association is unique, pointing to the contributions that close regional integration in the field of green energy has made to Malaysia’s emergence as a high-tech manufacturing power.
