Closing of the activities of the first edition of the Sharjah Literature Festival

Sharjah, January 23 / WAM / The first edition of the “Sharjah Literature Festival”, the distinguished cultural event that lit up the skies of the emirate with various types of Emirati literature, concluded under the slogan “Emirati Stories Inspire the Future”.

The festival, which was organized by the Sharjah Book Authority and the Emirates Publishers Association, was launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority and Honorary President of the Emirates Publishers Association, and is considered a new window into the worlds of Emirati literature. It carries with it ambitious goals, which include highlighting the achievements of Emirati writers and publishers and enhancing the status of the Emirates. A leading center for literature and culture.

The event provided a unique experience for its visitors through its various activities that embodied the spirit of the Emirati cultural identity and brought together 29 guests and 12 interlocutors from the most prominent figures of literature, thought, art and media in the Emirates, who transformed the courtyard of the University City Hall in Sharjah into a stage for inspiring events that included 20 dialogue sessions and seminars that highlighted creativity. Emirati literature in the present and past, and discussed its future directions and the role of literature in instilling national and creative values, in addition to 9 workshops. Inspiring children and adults, she took them to the worlds of space and design arts using Arabic calligraphy, storytelling, and arts.

The event also enriched the experience of its visitors with a book fair that presented the latest publications of 41 Emirati publishers, in addition to 25 captivating musical performances, including a piano concert with Iman Al Hashemi, the first Emirati composer, in addition to distinctive shopping experiences.

Rashid Al-Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, said that the first edition of the festival was a success that exceeded expectations, which reflects the local community’s passion for literature and culture, noting that the events were a celebration of the Emirati cultural identity and the literary richness that distinguished Emirati writers across generations.

He thanked the Sharjah Book Authority for its role in enhancing Sharjah’s position as the capital of culture and literature, and the University City of Sharjah, the strategic partner of the event, for the support and sincere efforts that had a great impact on the success of the first edition of the festival.
