He added in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the press conference held today at the Etihad Railways headquarters to reveal the details of the high-speed train project and announce the arrival of the first fleet of passenger trains, that the high-speed train contributes to strengthening economic and social ties, as the project network will pass through… 6 stations between the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
He explained that the six stations include a station on Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. In the Emirate of Dubai, the high-speed train will pass through stations around the Al Maktoum Airport area and the Al Jaddaf area, in addition to the comfort it guarantees to passengers, through ease of transportation. Traveling between the two emirates in a period of time not exceeding 30 minutes, and at a maximum speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
Al Shehhi said that the high-speed train linking Abu Dhabi and Dubai is in line with national trends to achieve a balance between the process of sustainable economic development and environmental preservation, as it will operate entirely using electric energy, which directly contributes to the goals of the “Strategic Initiative for Climate Neutrality 2050.”
Al Shehhi confirmed the completion of tenders for high-speed train project contracts and the designs for the network have been approved, which reflects Etihad Trains’ commitment to developing this project. He explained that the company will develop, implement and operate this promising project, in a historic step that paves the way for a new era of transportation in the UAE, which It has always been a pioneer in launching important projects to occupy an important position on the global stage in the transportation and infrastructure sectors.
On the sidelines of the announcement of this project, Al Shehhi revealed the details of the first passenger train fleet in the UAE, which can accommodate about 400 passengers, including facilities designated for families. The first four passenger train stations in the country were also revealed, which include the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations will be linked with metro and bus lines to provide an interconnected and integrated transportation network.
Al Shehhi stressed that the new project and the first passenger train fleet are a qualitative step that contributes to strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading destination in the field of smart transportation, through keenness to develop the sustainable transportation system and upgrade its infrastructure by relying on the latest innovative technical solutions.
