The Russian delegation affirmed its support for Syrian sovereignty and the integrity of its territory

A high -ranking Russian delegation expressed its support for its sovereignty and the integrity of its lands after the fall of Bashar al -Assad, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow on Wednesday.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that “the Russian side confirmed its firm support for the unity, integrity of the lands and sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic,” noting that the visit comes in a “decisive moment” in relation to Russian -Syrian relations.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the visit as “the mission.” “It is necessary to hold a permanent dialogue with and preserve the Syrian authorities, which we will continue to do,” he told reporters.
The Russian delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who is also the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Middle East and Africa.
Bogdanov met with the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al -Shara.
Russia is seeking to ensure the fate of its naval base in Tartous and its air base in Hmeimim in Syria, which are the only two military locations outside the scope of the former Soviet Union.
