Refugee Commission takes precautionary measures after freezing American support

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced on Wednesday that it is in the process of taking a series of temporary measures due to the confrontation with a “state of uncertainty in the field of financing”, after the United States’s decision to freeze the vast majority of its foreign aid.
“We have informed the decision of the new US administration to stop monitoring funds for foreign aid programs,” said UNHCR.
He continued, “While we are still conducting an evaluation of the influence of the decision of the new US administration, including potential exceptions, we are implementing a series of temporary precautionary measures to alleviate the impact of uncertainty in terms of financing.”

American aid suspension

US President Donald Trump ordered at the beginning of his second presidential term last week, a temporary suspension of 90 days of US foreign aid, to allow a review, knowing that Washington is the largest donor of foreign aid in the world in dollars.
As a result, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio froze all aid financing procedures except for the emergency and military food designated for Egypt and the occupying state.
In a follow -up to a follow -up issued on Tuesday after the condemnation of relief organizations, Rubio explained that other “humanitarian aid”, in addition to this food, will also be excluded from freezing during the review period.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said it has not yet had “specific information” about how the Trump administration’s decision affected it, knowing that the United States was its largest financier.
