The Chairman of the Refugee Commission calls for support for reconstruction in Syria

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Philipo Grande, called on the international community to support the reconstruction in Syria to facilitate the return of millions of refugees and displaced persons to their homes.
He said during a press conference in Ankara upon his return from Syria and Lebanon and before heading to Jordan: “Lift the sanctions, and encourage the reconstruction, we must do so now, at the beginning of the transitional phase, we waste time.”

The return of the Syrians

In total, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 800,000 Syrians have returned to their homes, including 600,000 displaced people, and Grande said: “Refugees move faster than politics, it is a good start.”

For those who are frequent due to the lack of clarity of the image in Syria, he said that Türkiye allows refugees to take “three back and forth” trips to Syria before their decision was made.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated that “no one will be forced to return,” expecting more trips during religious holidays and school holidays and when the weather is less cold.
He explained that “it is also advisable to return gradually because Syria is not ready to receive large numbers of returnees.”
