UN concern about the executions of outside the law in Khartoum Bahri

High Commissioner Volcker Turk repeated his call for the immediate end of such attacks. He stressed the necessity of conducting independent investigations in these incidents in line with the relevant international standards.

The High Commissioner for Human Rights said: “Demanding killing of civilians or people who have not participated in hostilities, or stopped participating in it, is a war crime.” He again called on all parties to the conflict to take urgent measures to protect civilians and fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The Human Rights Office expressed concern about the possibility of more attacks in light of the horrific threats of violence against civilians. The United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights said: “The deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian notables are terrible, and they must end immediately, and incitement to violence against civilians must be ended. Such attacks constitute severe violations of international humanitarian law that may rise to war crimes.”
