After a aid truck turned against them, 20 Palestinians were killed in Gaza
At least 20 Palestinians were killed, and dozens of them were injured late on Tuesday night- Wednesday, as a result of a truck carrying food aid in the city of Deir Al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical sources and the government media office in the Strip.
The sources stated that the accident occurred during the inhabitants of the population to reach a aid truck that was taking an unprepared road, which led to its overturning amid civilian gatherings.
The sources said that most of the victims are residents of the affected areas with severe food insecurity, and were killed while waiting for truck aid.
The government media office accused – in a statement – the Israeli army of causing the accident; Pointing out that the truck was forced to enter the city through unsafe roads that had been bombed, and did not qualify to be valid for traffic.
The statement added that the Israeli army “intends to engineer chaos and starvation by preventing the organization of the process of distributing aid, and letting it pass in random and dangerous conditions,” according to the “German News Agency”.
According to the statement, the incident is “a direct result of the policy of collective starvation” in which he accused the Israeli authorities of obstructing the introduction of aid in an organized way, and imposing dangerous paths on trucks that transport food, which drives civilians trapped to scramble around them.
The Gaza Strip has witnessed a series of similar incidents in recent months, killing and wounding hundreds of people during attempts to obtain food, amid what humanitarian organizations describe as “disastrous and unprecedented” conditions.
More than two million people in Gaza face the danger of hunger, according to international estimates, in light of the Israeli blockade since the beginning of the war in October 2023, and the closure of most crossings for months, with the exception of limited and temporary holes that do not meet the increasing humanitarian needs.
The government media office called on the international community to urgently intervene to ensure a safe and sustainable flow of aid, and to open the crossings completely, holding Israel and the United States responsible for the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis in the sector.
The UN Commissioner of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) Philip Lazarini had said earlier, on Tuesday, that hunger has become the new killer in the Gaza Strip, and stressed that it is time to provide aid safely and without obstacles.
“It is time to provide aid safely, without obstacles and dignity,” Lazarini said in a post on the X platform.
