By achieving justice … the International Criminal Court undertakes to respond to Trump’s penalties
This comes in response to sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump, and it received international and European disapproval and from the majority of member states in this judiciary.
Trump’s penalties for the International Criminal Court
Trump imposed these sanctions on the court on charges of “carrying out base judicial procedures against the United States and our close ally Israel.”
The decree that Trump signed on Thursday and published by the White House prohibits the entry of international criminal court officials, its employees and elements to the United States, as well as the closest members of their families and everyone who provided assistance in the court’s investigations.
The decree also notes the freezing of the assets of all these people in the United States, and the names of the targeted individuals were not announced immediately, and the International Criminal Court condemned the penalties.
Global system
She stressed in a statement that she “stands firmly behind her employees and is obligated to continue to achieve justice and give hope again to millions of innocent victims who measured atrocities in the world, in all the issues that are raised to it.”
The President of the Court, Tomoko, also condemned the Trump decree, and saw a dangerous attack on the world order.
She said in a statement: “Trump’s decree is the latest in the framework of an unprecedented and escalating series of attacks aimed at undermining the court’s ability to achieve justice in all cases.”
Forced threats and measures
She added that “such threats and forced measures constitute dangerous attacks on the states parties in the court, the global system based on the rule of law, and millions of victims.”
The United Nations asked Trump to retract his decision, and a spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ravenna Shamdasani, said: “We express great regret over the individual sanctions that were announced yesterday against the court’s employees and we call for this measure.”
The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, also warned that these sanctions may threaten the independence of the judiciary, and undermine the international criminal judicial system in its wide scope.
